This was the day I got my last relaxer. That day, my hairdresser told me "Stop relaxing your hair." And I said okay, I will. I wish someone would have told me that transitioning for a long period is not for the weak. I had planned to transition for 2 years.
I didn't follow most of the rules that people recommend when transitioning:
- I sprayed hydrogen peroxide on my relaxed hair to ensure that I commit to transitioning.
- I flat ironed my hair a lot.
- I shampooed often.
- I waited a long time to cut all my relaxed ends.
* These practices can impede your progress.
Things that helped me:
- A hat!
- Braids, braids and more braids
- Braid outs
- Lots of CONDITIONER
- Denman brush
- Hair claw clips
Six months into transitioning I got a haircut.

My reaction when I looked up at the mirror in the hairdresser's chair :
It was for the best - my hair was much easier to handle. These are the styles I did to maintain my hair:

I couldn't handle caring for two textures anymore. I also wanted to use less heat. So I finally cut my relaxed ends after transitioning for a year and a half!

What my hair looks like now:

Recommendations:
Don't skip deep conditioning
Detangle gently before washing
If you don't mind silicones purchase a big bottle of conditioner with a lot of slip
Invest in a detangling brush
Co-wash more often
Wear protective styles
Trim your hair consistently
Cut your hair when you feel ready : )
Use good quality shears if you cut your own hair
